Gorgonzola is a comune in the province of Milan, and is part of Lombardy, Italy. The well known Gorgonzola cheese is claimed by the residents, the Gorgonzolesi, to have originated in Gorgonzola in 879 A.D. , although other towns claim the origins too.
It is an ivory colored cheese with blue/green streaks. Slightly pungent, this cheese made from cow’s milk is rich and creamy. Goes well with red wines or salads. Storing it for long periods (over six months) may render it unfit for eating due to the strong pungent smell it develops. |
