A Roy Rogers is a non-alcoholic cocktail (or mocktail) made with cola (such as Coca-Cola) and grenadine syrup, garnished with a maraschino cherry. It is sometimes referred to as a "Darth Vader" or a "Shirley Temple Black"; however, in recent years, both this name and the original "Roy Rogers" have given way to the term "grenadini." It is considered an acceptable cocktail drink for children (since there is no alcohol). For this reason, it may also be called a kiddie cocktail or simply a homemade Cherry Coke. Grenadine is almost always a non-alcoholic beverage. However, buyers should check the label, since some versions contain alcohol.
It was named for the cowboy actor and singer Roy Rogers
